AGW Joins Fight Against Concrete Batch Plant

After attending a neighborhood meeting of the Friends of Central Vancouver (FOCV) and visiting the site of the proposed Knife River concrete batch plant, members of the Amberglen Good Works Steering Committee agreed that standing in opposition to the plant is in the interest of Amberglen and AGW.

Details presented at the neighborhood meeting provided compelling evidence of the health and safety dangers faced by nearby communities. Please refer to “Jan. 13 FOCV Neighborhood Meeting” for more information.

Amberglen is only 3/4 mile from the proposed plant.

Another reason that helped convince the AGWSC to support the cause is the surprising proximity of the Amberglen neighborhood to the proposed concrete batch plant site. Although our neighborhood is 1.4 miles by road to the site, it is only 0.75 miles as the crow flies. That is well within the range travelled by airborne silicate dust

Some of the neighborhoods that will be most directly impacted by the concrete batch plant – such as Mountain View Estates and the development currently under construction, Curtin Creek Meadow – are literally within feet of the site. Amberglen may be farther away and the impact on our health and safety may be slightly less, but the AGWSC believes that we must stand in solidarity with others in nearby communities who are facing the immediacy of this threat.

Amberglen Good Works is working in cooperation with the Friends of Central Vancouver to stop the planned construction of a concrete batch plant adjacent to the Mt. View Estates neighborhood, less than 3/4 mile from Amberglen. We urge all of our neighbors to help in any way possible. Please contact us by email at amberglengoodworks@gmail.com, or speak to a member of the AGW Steering Committee to find out what you can do.
