Jan. 13 FOCV Neighborhood Meeting

Jan. 13 FOCV Neighborhood Meeting

The Friends of Central Vancouver (FOCV), an LLC recently formed to fight the Knife River concrete batch plant, held its first public meeting on January 13 to warn community members of the threats posed by the plant.

The meeting was held at the Cascades Presbyterian Church and was attended by around a hundred people. It was led by co-chairpersons Jan Kelly and Blake DeFrance. Team leaders from four committees, each focusing on a different area of potential concern, gave presentations:

  • Medical Concerns, led by Adam Turigliatti
  • Environmental Concerns, led by Mark Krant and David Lane
  • County Procedural Concerns, led by Bill Peterson
  • Quality-of-Life Concerns, led by Blake DeFrance, Sue Scott, and Keith Scott

Attendees were asked to join the members of FOCV at the upcoming Clark County Council (CCC) Meeting in a show of community solidarity.

After presentations were made, the attendees broke up into groups; each group discussed one of the four specific areas of concern. Individuals who were willing to speak at the CCC meeting were identified and plans were made for how to best communicate their concerns.

The meeting was very informative and well-organized. AGW members who attended agreed on the importance of supporting the FOCV efforts.

Amberglen Good Works is working in cooperation with the Friends of Central Vancouver to stop the planned construction of a concrete batch plant adjacent to the Mt. View Estates neighborhood, less than 3/4 mile from Amberglen. We urge all of our neighbors to help in any way possible. Please contact us by email at amberglengoodworks@gmail.com, or speak to a member of the AGW Steering Committee to find out what you can do.
