FOCV Presents Case to County Council

Members of the Friends of Central Vancouver presented highly effective public commentary to the Clark County Council that argued against the proposed Knife River concrete batch plant. The failure to adhere to the “20 Year Comprehensive Growth Management Plan – 2015-2035” was a constant theme as the speakers pleaded their case against the irregular zoning change that opened the door to heavy industrial development in an area immediately adjacent to existing and developing neighborhoods.

1:45:26 – Ray Toler condemns the inadequacy of the county land use notification process.

1:46:59 – Janie Angelo Carter describes the process Pioneer Industrial used to strong-arm the county into making the zoning change from LI to IR.

1:50:12 – David Feist describes how the approval of the zoning change occurred on the very same day as approval of the adjacent 62 home Curtin Creek Meadows development.

1:53:18 – Denise Trassatti explains how the council needs to take back control from the unelected bureaucracy and how the pollution will impact the Curtin Creek Wetlands.

1:56:02 – Bill Peterson asks for a moratorium on acceptance of any permit requests on RI-zoned parcels.

2:00:22 – Janiece Magarian exhorts the council to “stand up and help us” and “prevent a train wreck” from happening.

2:03:01 – Scott Golphenee thanks the council for listening.

2:04:40 – Robert Engel, a Curtin Creek Condos resident, asks why no environmental impact study was required before the rezoning occurred.

2:52:40– Council members Sue Marshall, glen Yung, Gary Medvigy, and county manager Kathleen Otto discuss a request for a report at the next meeting regarding this issue.
