Knife River “Pushing Pause” On Plans
According an article in The Columbian, titled “Clark County concrete plant on hold amid neighborhood opposition,” Knife River Corp. has announced that plans for their controversial concrete batch plant have been put on hold. No specific reason was given, but a spokesperson for the company added that they’ve asked Clark County for input on other possible locations for the plant.
In the article, Jan Kelly (co-chair of the opposing Friends of Central Vancouver), commented: “That’s great news. I think that is very wise on their part, because we are not going to be giving up the fight until they pick another location that’s better suited for that type of business. I like to think we’re organized; we are singularly focused on protecting our health, our ecosystem, our neighbors and our property values.”
In comments to Amberglen Good Works, Jan added, “A pause is not a stop. It is an intermission so they can see where else they can build. We cannot let up until we know where their build will take place, and make sure it is not near any residential area. We must stay the course. We have only won a small victory for the moment.”
Amberglen Good Works is working in cooperation with the Friends of Central Vancouver to stop the planned construction of a concrete batch plant adjacent to the Mt. View Estates neighborhood, less than 3/4 mile from Amberglen. We urge all of our neighbors to help in any way possible.
